Does Chardonnay make for a good “dry white wine”?

Foresta asked:

I’m making Wild Mushroom Bisque and the recipe calls for a dry white wine. I’ve got some Chardonnay, does that count?

Sure, that will work just fine. I usually use Chard because that’s what I have on hand. Sauvignon Blanc and Fume Blanc work well too.

Chardonnay works well for dry white wine if you like an oaky hint to your dishes. If you’d prefer less oak and more fruit then Pinot Grigio or Pino Gris works well. Sauvignon Blanc or Fume Blanc is good too.

That should work quite fine. I generally use a chardonnay when a recipe calls for a dry white wine.

If you like chardonnay, then you’ll love your dish. Personally I find it too buttery and oaky so I go with sauvignon blanc or something lighter. But it’s all about what YOU like, so go for it!

If it tastes good, it will be fine in the dish. Enjoy.
