Chemically yes the flavor is different.

The taste, of course, would be different, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Instead of plain white vinegar, you might try your apple cider vinegar, or malt vinegar, as a substitute (if you have those things available). They would add a slightly different taste, but I don’t think it would be unpleasant.

They have a different taste, but overall they do work the same. It’s probably okay in your chicken dish if it’s like a marinade. I’ve switched them in salad dressings and I can taste the difference, but they’re both good. Probably not worth a special trip to the grocery store!
